Young DCYC sailors in a fleet of small dinghies on Lake Lewisville

Where Young Sailors
Find the Wind

Hands-on sailing for kids — learn to sail, race, and lead on the water with the DCYC Youth Sailing Program.

About the Program

Confidence, built one tack at a time.

The DCYC Youth Sailing Program introduces kids to the water in a safe, supportive environment. From their first time rigging a boat to crossing a finish line, young sailors build real skills — and real confidence.

Open to ages 8–18, our program pairs certified instructors with small groups so every sailor gets time at the helm. They learn seamanship, racing tactics, teamwork, water safety, and the kind of grit that lasts well beyond the dock.

Why DCYC Youth Sailing

Most programs pick a lane. We don’t.

Around DFW, youth sailing usually means one of two things — elite racing or a week of summer camp. The DCYC Youth Sailing Program is built to be both, and then to keep going: the friendships, the leadership, and the love of the water that turn a first-time camper into a sailor for life.

01

A boat for every stage

Optis, RS Teras, Lasers, FJs, and keelboats — a fleet broad enough to meet your sailor on day one and keep challenging them for years.

02

More than lessons

Ice Cream Under the Bridge, Dinghy Fridays, movie nights, BBQs, and pirate-themed regattas. Kids come for the sailing and stay for the friendships.

03

Campers become coaches

Our counselor-to-coach pathway turns today’s campers into tomorrow’s certified instructors and on-the-water leaders.

04

The whole family aboard

Parent clinics, family fun sails, and a volunteer culture that makes the club feel like a second home — not just a drop-off.

05

Cost shouldn’t keep a kid ashore

Scholarship support through the DCYC Education Foundation (DCEF) helps lower the barriers so more kids can get on the water.

06

A sailor for life

We measure success in years on the water, not weeks at camp — from first sail to race team to crew, counselor, and beyond.

Building Sailors for Life

One club. A lifetime on the water.

The best part of DCYC Youth Sailing isn’t a single summer — it’s the path. Sailors grow up here, then come back to teach the next crew. Here’s the journey your kid can start this season.

  1. First Sail Rigging, water safety, and points of sail on stable dinghies.
  2. Race Team Tactics, boat handling, and real regatta competition.
  3. Counselor Lead and mentor the next crew of younger sailors.
  4. Coach US Sailing certifications and coach mentorship.
  5. Sailor for Life A lifelong place at the club — crew, volunteer, member.
