Where and when do you sail?

We sail out of the Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club on Lake Lewisville.

What ages is the youth sailing program for?
Our program is open to ages 8–18. Sailors are grouped by age and experience so everyone gets the right level of coaching.
Does my child need sailing experience to join?
No experience needed. Beginners start with the basics — rigging, safety, and their first time at the helm — and build from there.
How early should I sign up for camp?
Boats are assigned on a first come, first served basis, so sign up as soon as possible to secure your spot!
How do I register and pay?
Watch the Programs section and the calendar for open sessions, then complete a Registration Form — you’ll be billed with a payment link. Subscribe to be notified when new sessions open.
How much does it cost, and is financial help available?
Session pricing options are listed at registration. Scholarships are not available at this time, however, if you’d like to fund a sailor, please reach us through our Sponsorship Link.
What should I bring to camp?

Pack everything in a labeled bag so each camper’s belongings stay together:

  • Life Jacket / PFD (must fit the child properly based on weight and size)
  • Swimsuit
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Reusable water bottle with a clip or leash
  • Water shoes
  • Sunglasses with a strap
  • Sun hat
  • Helmet — skateboard helmets with removable/washable inserts work great!
  • Whistle
  • Lunch, including utensils and easy-open containers (heating and refrigeration are not available)
Are there swimming requirements?
Every camper takes a swim test on the first day. To pass, a sailor must comfortably swim across the pool and back, and tread water for at least 3 minutes while wearing a life jacket.
Does my child’s life jacket fit properly?
A child’s PFD has to fit snugly so they cannot slip out of it in the water. Never buy a larger PFD expecting the child to grow into it. When you grab the shoulders — or when the child is swimming — the life jacket should not ride up above their chin and ears.
What are the weather policies?
Camp takes place rain or shine. DCYC monitors radar and forecasts to avoid sending sailors out in adverse conditions, and in sudden bad weather students are brought ashore as soon as possible. If the weather keeps us off the water, there are still plenty of skills and activities to do on shore.
What is the refund policy?
We do not offer refunds. Family emergencies and other unforeseen events sometimes mean a child can’t attend — in those cases, on a case-by-case basis and at the discretion of the Board of Advisors, a voucher may be issued for a future camp.

Safety rules
  • The 3 R’s — Respect Yourself, Respect Others, Respect the Environment.
  • Appropriate footwear is worn at all times.
  • A fastened life jacket is worn at all times on the water, in the water, and on the dock.
  • Avoid boat collisions.
  • No participant leaves a class without an instructor’s permission.
  • Keep DCYC equipment clean and in good shape, and report any broken, unusual, or unsafe condition to an instructor right away. A sailor may be held responsible for damage caused by improper behavior.
Sailor behavior expectations

Campers are expected to behave properly during class and to treat their instructors, peers, and DCYC equipment with respect.

  • No disruptive behavior, or disrespectful gestures, actions, or language toward other students or instructors.
  • If a child refuses to participate or is misbehaving, parents or guardians may be called to pick them up.
What is expected of parents
  • Complete all documents and payments — no one may participate without these forms on file and full payment.
  • Be on time for arrival and dismissal. Drop-off is 9:00 a.m. and pick-up is 4:00 p.m. Children must be signed in and out in person by an instructor; if someone else is dropping off or picking up, contact the Head Coach.
  • Put your child’s emotional and physical well-being ahead of any personal desire to succeed.
  • Treat other participants and staff with respect.
  • Provide your sailor with the proper personal equipment for sailing.
  • Please stay out of the instruction areas — campers practice independence and teamwork during camp.
